MUNDELEIN, Ill.--()--Thousands of people across America – from healthcare professionals, breast cancer survivors and firemen to teachers, policeman and NFL football stars – have been hard at work choreographing pink glove dances in support of the fight against breast cancer in the fourth annual Medline Pink Glove Dance video competition. From September 9 through September 23, 2014, the public is invited to join in the effort and vote for their favorite pink glove dance video at www.pinkglovedance.com.

“The Medline Pink Glove Dance competition is the only campaign of its kind that has brought together hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals, patients and communities to celebrate life and hope,” said Andy Mills, president of Medline. “It’s also the only competition to honor all who’ve been affected by the disease through the joy of dancing.”

The winning videos will be announced October 2 and chosen based on the number of votes in each of three categories: 1) Healthcare System (i.e., a network of healthcare institutions); 2) Standalone Healthcare Provider (an independent or single healthcare facility, i.e., not part of a healthcare system or network); 3) Non-Healthcare Organization (e.g., a school, non-profit or for-profit business, club, or other non-healthcare organization). The video with the most votes among all the categories will be the grand prize winner and receive $15,000 from Medline designated to the breast cancer charity of their choice. First place in each category will receive a $10,000 donation from Medline for their charity and second place in each category will win $5,000 for their charity.

Voting is open to anyone in the United States, Canada and Panama. Separate competitions are also held in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

History of Medline’s Pink Glove Dance

Back in 2009, Medline turned everyday exam gloves from green to pink and launched an aggressive breast cancer education campaign to help make detection exams less scary and remind nurses about the importance of creating a comfortable, friendly and open dialogue with their patients. Later that year, the original Medline Pink Glove Dance video premiered and featured 200 Portland, Ore. hospital workers wearing pink gloves and dancing in support of breast cancer awareness and prevention. Today the video has nearly 14 million views on YouTube®.

With so many organizations wanting to participate in their own video, Medline created the Pink Glove Dance video competition in 2011. Since then, the competition has brought together more than 200,000 healthcare professionals, patients and communities to celebrate and honor all who have been affected by the disease through the joy of dancing. More than 20 million YouTube® views later, the Medline Pink Glove Dance competition has inspired more than 1,000 dance videos and donated nearly $2.5 million to help support essential programs and services for those in need including education, access to diagnostic breast care services, and provide nurturing support services through the National Breast Cancer Foundation and other charitable organizations across the country.
