National Science Teachers Association Accepting Submissions for 2014 Teacher Award Program

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the largest professional organization in the world promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all, is kicking off the 2014 Teacher Awards Program. Every year more than 50 extraordinary K-12 teachers, principals, professors, and other science education professionals—committed to making a difference in science, technology, engineering, and math teaching and learning—are recognized and rewarded for their exceptional contributions to the education community.

This year, NSTA is offering 20 different awards that are administered by the Association and funded by various corporations and organizations. Many of the awards recognize teachers for their development and implementation of unique science programs and curricula, while others honor individuals who show outstanding leadership and dedication to the profession, including NSTA’s prestigious Robert H. Carleton Award.

“Not enough people know about the amazing benefits of NSTA’s Teacher Awards,” said NSTA President Dr. Juliana Texley. “There are countless educators who are giving so much to help their students succeed in STEM education and we want to acknowledge and celebrate them for their efforts and contributions to the teaching profession.”

The newest additions to the awards line up are the Northrop Grumman Foundation Excellence in Engineering Education Award and the Shell Urban Science Educators Development Award. The Northrop Grumman Foundation Excellence in Engineering Education Award honors K-12 public school science/technology teachers for excellence in the field of engineering education. The Shell Urban Science Educators Development Award rewards outstanding K-12 science educators who teach in urban settings with financial support to attend NSTA’s National Conference on Science Education. Other awards include the Faraday Science Communicator Award, the Vernier Technology Awards, PASCO STEM Educator Awards, and the Wendell G. Mohling Outstanding Aerospace Educator Award, to name just a few.

The NSTA awards offer recognition and a multitude of prizes for educators. Prizes include cash awards and grants, school supplies and materials, and trips to our national conferences. For more information about the NSTA Teacher Awards Program or to download an application, visit our website. The submission deadline for most of the awards is November 30, 2014.
