Most recently, he was the chief innovation officer at AirStrip’s innovation partner Palomar Health and previously held positions as general manager of the Global Health Industry with Sun Microsystems, department head of applied clinical informatics with the University of Michigan, executive director of mergers and acquisitions with WellPoint, and a senior advisor with SAIC.
Recently, Portale launched the world’s first medically focused wearable computing accelerator. In 2011, the San Diego Business Journal named him Technology Executive of the Year. Portale has served on numerous boards including at the Brookings Institution, the Department of Defense, Cisco and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and has lectured on strategic innovation at the University of California San Diego.
