HONOLULU--()--For the second time this year, the Department of Veterans Affairs West Oahu Vet Center, in collaboration with Army OneSource Hawaii Behavioral Health Alliance, has joined in partnership with Young Brothers Ltd. to transport the Mobile Vet Center (MVC), this time to Kauai, to serve as a resource for Military Families at the third annual Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) Tropic Care 2014.

The Mobile Vet Center (MVC) is a state-of-the-art, traveling resource with audio-visual equipment, phones lines, computers and Wi-Fi gear which empowers the West Oahu Vet Center to provide services to Veterans who do not have easy access to the Vet Center. While the high cost of shipping this 19,000 pound vehicle has previously prohibited it from venturing beyond Oahu, the generosity of Young Brothers, Ltd., has allowed the MVC to travel to neighboring islands. The MVC recently completed a trip to Maui, is currently on its way to the “The Garden Isle,” and may soon travel to the “Big Island.”

Events on the island of Kauai will be held June 16-25 and are open to Active Duty, Reserve/Guard personnel, Veterans, and their Families who are interested in free and confidential readjustment counseling services, referrals and information and assistance from Vet Centers.

Schedule of Events: June 16-25

June 16-18 Kauai Community College, 3-1901 Kaumualii Hwy., Lihue 8:00-5:00pm

June 19 Hanalei Family Community Center, 3-5299 Kuhio Hwy., Hanalei 9:30-1:30pm

This effort is the result of local and national agencies partnering together to serve our men and women in uniform. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Readjustment Counseling Services strives to improve Veteran-Centered Care, which includes addressing their individual needs, and the MVC makes this possible for more Veterans. This is also in alignment with the Army OneSource mission to effectively serve the unique challenges of Military life by building community alliances to address the growing demand for behavioral health, financial, legal and faith-based services, specifically for the geographically dispersed.
