DALLAS--()--Today, two commanding leaders in the global fight against breast cancer, Susan G. Komen® and WWE®, will kick off four days of educational breast cancer messaging and urging women to get active for their health during National Women’s Health Week (May 11-17).

Following his appearance as Grand Marshal of the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure® in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, May 10, WWE Superstar John Cena® will start a week-long engagement with his fans, encouraging them to learn about breast cancer risks and make their health a priority.

More than 232,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year in the U.S. alone. Thanks in part to efforts by Komen and others, mortality rates from breast cancer have decreased by 34 percent since 1990. Still, one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, and the disease remains an important focus of public health.

Throughout the week, as women everywhere are making pledges to get active, eat healthy, avoid dangerous behaviors and more, Komen, WWE Superstars and the WWE Divas will be sharing breast self-awareness messages with the hashtag #NWHW to make sure that women everywhere are knowledgeable about breast cancer:

1) Know Your Risk: Learn about your family health history and talk to your provider about your personal risk of breast cancer.

2) Get Screened: Talk with your doctor about which screening tests are right for you.

3) Know What Is Normal for You: See your health care provider if you notice any change in your breast or underarm area, including a lump, swelling, dimpling, and more (see the full list here).

4) Make Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Maintain a healthy weight, exercise, limit alcohol intake, limit menopausal hormone use and breastfeed, if you can.

On Thursday, May 15, John Cena and WWE Moms will invite WWE fans and individuals everywhere to showcase how they incorporate healthy behaviors into their lives.

  • Throughout the day on May 15, fans can join John Cena on Twitter by tagging photos and videos with @SusanGKomen and the hashtag #NWHW to share how they are making healthy lifestyle choices. They can also visit komen.org/wwe on that day to see the healthy lifestyle choices that others are making.
  • From 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. ET Thursday evening, fans can join @WWEMoms, a community of moms who share their love of the WWE, for a Twitter party to chat about these important breast self-awareness messages, using the hashtags #WWEMoms and #NWHW.

“We’re so excited to have support from WWE this week while we share this vital information with women everywhere,” said Komen President and CEO Judy Salerno, M.D., M.S. “Sharing this knowledge will have a lasting impact in communities across the globe, and will bring us closer to our vision of a world without breast cancer.”
