ACT Expo 2014

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Luxfer-GTM Technologies, LLC, a joint venture between Luxfer Group (NYSE:LXFR) and GTM Technologies, will introduce two new gas-storage products at ACT Expo 2014 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif., May 5-8. ACT stands for Alternative Clean Transportation.

Mobile GTM1350-Refueler for high-pressure CNG

The first new product is the patented, mobile GTM1350-Refueler for dispensing high-pressure CNG. Mounted on a compact trailer that can be towed behind a standard ¾-ton pickup truck, the GTM1350-R has a CNG capacity of 46,000 scf (335 dge) and an integrated, on-board booster pump and dispenser. For CNG storage, the GTM1350-R uses Luxfer G-Stor® Pro Type 3 carbon composite cylinders, a glass-bulb pressure-relief device (PRD) system and ½-inch full-flow ball valves on each cylinder. The total gross weight is only 9,150 pounds.

The pump can be powered either by outside compressed air (100 psig) or from pneumatic energy stored in an isolated group of cylinders within the trailer, providing users the ability to fill vehicles without the need for external power. The GTM1350-R is ideal for supporting remote vehicle fleets, disaster recovery fueling and other applications requiring mobile CNG.

Standard equipment includes both NGV1 and NGV2 filling receptacles mounted in a separate panel so that customers can easily refill the trailer at conventional CNG filling stations. An optional plumbing panel enables gas-flow reversal so that the GTM1350-R can be filled with gas recovered from stranded wells, flare-gas sources and landfills. The GTM1350-R can be fast-filled and fast-discharged up to 75 mscfh, characteristics unmatched by traditional steel or Type 4 tube trailers.

“We designed the GTM1350-R to keep pace in an innovative way with the varying and growing requirements of CNG users,” said Michael Koonce, president of GTM Technologies. “There is nothing on the market today that can carry this much high-pressure CNG behind a pickup truck and dispense gas so quickly.”

G-Pak™ gas-storage system

The second new product is the G-Pak system for storage and transportation of high-pressure gases, including compressed natural gas (CNG) and hydrogen, at pressures up to 5,000 psig. At the heart of the system are Luxfer G-Stor® Pro Type 3 (aluminum-lined) carbon composite cylinders fitted with high-flow valves and protected by a reliable glass-bulb-based pressure/thermal safety system.

The G-Pak consists of an all-aluminum frame that encloses the cylinders, a regulated control panel, a high-flow regulator, easy-to-use push-pull valve actuators and built-in NGV1 receptacles that allow the G-Pak to be filled at most CNG filling stations. Customized control panels are also available.

An important G-Pak feature is its small footprint, which enables two or three units to be stacked in the bed of a standard pickup truck. Two units have a tare weight of only 520 pounds, so one or two G-Paks with CNG can be transported without a driver’s hazmat endorsement or truck placarding.

CNG capacity is 21 dge at 3,600 psig. Hydrogen capacity is 6.3 kg at 5,000 psig.

“Our G-Pak gas-storage systems are a first for the industry, permitting easy transport of high volumes of CNG in a standard pickup without the need for hazmat-endorsed drivers,” Michael Koonce said.
