STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Tuesday, April 8, 2014, twenty-eight of the world’s leading chefs gathered in New York City for a one-night-only culinary fete presented by the avante-garde chefs collaborative, Gelinaz! The highly confidential event was held at wd~50 restaurant and was a surprise celebration in honor of unsuspecting chef and owner Wylie Dufresne, a pioneer of new American cuisine. S.Pellegrino® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water served as the evening’s presenting sponsor, reinforcing its shared commitment to the promotion of innovation and creative expression within the culinary community.
Established in 2005, Gelinaz! is a collective and collaborative entity of international chefs whose mission is to transgress all culinary boundaries and build a bridge between cooking and the arts. To support this mission, Gelinaz! events feature imaginative artistic elements including theatre, dance, and music. To date, Gelinaz! has held eight events across the globe, in cities such as San Sebastián, Le Havre, Deauville, Copenhagen, Ghent and Lima.
“We are honored to play such an integral role in this extraordinary culinary event,” said Clément Vachon, International Relations Manager, Sanpellegrino S.p.A. “S.Pellegrino collaborates with emerging and established chefs, and it has been a thrill to be involved with Gelinaz! We believe ‘to Live in Italian’ is to transform any meal, at any time, into a delicious celebration of fine food and Gelinaz! exemplifies this.”
Each Gelinaz! event is themed and structured around a selection of iconic recipes, encouraging chef participants to deconstruct and reimagine them in endlessly creative ways. For this latest event, chef teams were presented with three of Chef Dufresne’s most emblematic dishes, including: cold fried chicken with buttermilk-ricotta, tabasco and caviar; shrimp noodles, a representation of Dufresne’s mastery of molecular gastronomy; and scrambled egg raviolis with charred avocado and Hamachi.
