Medical Waste Services Commissions STI BioSafe Steam Treatment Equipment

HARRISON, Ark.--()--Medical Waste Services has completed the installation of a new system for treatment of medical waste at their headquarters in Harrison, Arkansas. The STI Commercial Series 2000, manufactured by BioSafe Engineering of Brownsburg, Indiana, combines continuous throughput, integral shredding, steam decontamination, and dehydration to treat medical waste at a 1000 Lb/Hr capacity.

The equipment was commissioned in 2013 and now processes waste collected from a four state area. “This installation represents our latest, state-of-the-art model,” according to Randy McKee, Sales Director for STI products at BioSafe Engineering, “with upgrades for automated handling and cart cleaning with a touch of a bottom.” The STI Series 2000 treatment process combines low operating costs and simple maintenance for decades of dependable service.

Matt Norcross, President of MWS, has stated the business case for the new equipment: “Our business was started in 2009 with a focus on customer service. In order to keep our commitments as we grow, we needed to invest to handle ever-larger volumes while still reducing overall risk in the waste chain-of-custody. The STI machine not only allows us to be confident in our own ability to carry out treatment of the medical waste with absolute efficacy and safety, but provides us with present and future capacity to expand our services to all types and sizes of healthcare customers.”

Medical Waste Services transports and treats bio-hazardous waste, sharps, and expired pharmaceuticals in the states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Their customer base is made up of hospitals, medical offices, veterinary clinics, nursing homes, labs, dialysis centers, tattoo parlors, home health, funeral homes, and all other industries that produce bio-hazardous waste.

With its launch in 1995, STI equipment helped pioneer alternative treatment of infectious and bio-hazardous waste. It has replaced incineration in the USA, England, Ireland, N. Ireland, Australia. The company has supplied equipment for installations ranging in size from 300 to 6600 Lbs/Hr, and provides turnkey planning, installation, commissioning, training, and maintenance services.
