Vislink Chooses the Q-Lite™ Compact Satellite Modem for Integration into Vislink’s Advent MSAT Portal Terminal for SOTM

A very small, single-board modem with low power consumption and advanced bandwidth efficiency, Q-Lite™ from Teledyne Paradise Datacom seen as perfect fit for Vislink’s world-class SOTM terminal

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--()--Teledyne Paradise Datacom’s compact satellite modem, the Q-Lite™, has been successfully integrated into Vislink’s Advent Mantis "MSAT" Man Portable Data Terminal and is shipping now. The MSAT terminal is a highly-portable tri-band satellite antenna system specifically designed for rapid deployment in hostile environments.

Weighing in at only 12.5 kilos, the Advent MSAT is specifically designed to be carried by one person and provides powerful functionality for applications such as secure military communications, special operations, disaster recovery, emergency services, first-on-scene broadcast and mining operations. It can be powered from either AC mains or 12V DC and includes a 65cm reflector which can be used for Ka, Ku or X-band operation. The fully integrated, portable design requires less than five minutes from arrival to satellite acquisition, making it ideal for rapid deployment field applications where there is no time to spare.

The embedded Q-Lite™ is a compact, single-board satellite modem specifically designed for integration into small enclosures for portable communications and satcom-on-the-move (SOTM) applications, making it an ideal partner for the MSAT terminal.

The Q-Lite™ is small in size but big on key features such as DVB-S2, and is highly-regarded for its bandwidth efficiency and FastLink™ low-latency robust LDPC for latency-sensitive applications. Spectral roll-off factors down to 5% may also be selected for additional bandwidth savings. The modem design is fully IP-centric, with a comprehensive embedded IP feature set, combined with 150,000 packet-per-second processing capability, negating the need for any auxiliary outboard IP processing.

Vislink Project Leader Ali Zarkesh said, "Since the MSAT was launched eighteen months ago the in-house development team have continued the on-going developments to expand the reach of the MSAT by adding larger antennas and now a motorised version. The integration of the Q-Lite™ modem will benefit both parties and expand this reach even further into new markets."

Colin Mackay, Vice President of Engineering for Teledyne Paradise Datacom, added “We are delighted that Vislink has chosen the Q-Lite™ as a key component in the Advent MSAT system. The Advent MSAT is a world class portable terminal and we are very pleased with the end result of our joint development efforts. The Q-Lite™ is unique in terms of its functionality and has quickly established itself as the modem of choice in the mobile satellite communications market.”
