MEMPHIS, Tenn.--()--FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) today announced an international expansion for its award-winning SenseAware® service, which enables near real-time visibility into sensitive and high-value shipments. Customers will now be able to monitor shipments throughout an additional 14 European countries and Canada, and on board flights from three additional commercial air carriers: Air France, Cathay Pacific and Qantas Airways.

The expansion broadens the international availability of the SenseAware service, and breaks down barriers for customers monitoring highly critical global supply chains.

“Our expanding international reach enables our customers to monitor highly-sensitive shipments as they move through complicated global supply chains,” said Chris Swearingen, marketing manager for SenseAware. “The ability to monitor shipments throughout Europe and via a growing list of transportation carriers is a critical connection for customers moving high-value shipments around the world.”

SenseAware customers in Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland can now monitor the location of their shipments in near real-time, and keep a watch on environmental factors with the SenseAware service.

Customers in Canada, many of whom are already using the SenseAware service, will now benefit from expanded capabilities and availability in that country.

With the expansion of the SenseAware service in Europe and Canada, customers in those countries will also have access to the FedEx ShipmentWatch service. FedEx ShipmentWatch, a service of FedEx Custom Critical, leverages SenseAware for a range of sensitive shipments, including one-time and non-FedEx shipments.

The expansion of both the SenseAware and FedEx ShipmentWatch services offers increased visibility for a range of industries shipping high-value, sensitive packages throughout the world, including healthcare, aerospace, oil and gas, manufacturing and high-end merchandise such as fashion, art and antiques.

“With SenseAware, we can eliminate the risk of a lost shipment and significantly reduce any delays to our customers due to misrouting,” said FedEx Express customer Jan Fabri, Global Logistics & EMEA Commercial leader, Owens Corning GlassMetal Services. “This creates a tremendous competitive advantage for us.”

Launched in the U.S. in 2009, SenseAware combines an online application with a multi-sensor device to provide customers that ship high-value or environmentally-sensitive products with near real-time visibility, insight and collaboration across their supply chains. In addition to location monitoring, the service can also monitor temperature, light exposure, relative humidity, shock and barometric pressure. The SenseAware 2000 device supports a dry ice probe which monitors temperatures ranging from -80°C to +60°C (-112°F to +140°F) and a cryogenic probe which can monitor shipments from -195°C to +60°C (-319°F to +140°F), especially useful in the life sciences industry.

In 2013, the SenseAware service won the Supply Chain Integrity Innovator of the Year category at the Cool Chain Logistics Europe Excellence Awards in Basel, Switzerland for going the “extra mile to reach outstanding results in logistics or quality assurance.”

As SenseAware continues to expand service availability, updates will be posted at www.senseaware.com.

About SenseAware

SenseAware is a first-of-its-kind service that provides near real-time access to a package’s vital statistics within the in-transit supply chain or stationary inventory and enables customers to share that information across global supply chain stakeholders. A multi-sensor device, deeply integrated with a powerful web-based application, makes it possible for customers in a broad range of industries to stay connected to their high-value, critical shipments. The SenseAware service can provide:

  • Near real-time location information
  • Accurate temperature, relative humidity, and barometric pressure readings
  • Monitoring for light exposure and shock events
  • Alerts for location and route geofences, environmental conditions and shock events.

SenseAware is a contract-only service that can be easily adopted without infrastructure or large managed-service commitments. The added flexibility of the SenseAware service enables it to be used for monitoring of inventory, single shipments, or large palletized shipments, as well as for conducting targeted experiments for supply chain development. Customers simply set up a shipment in the SenseAware application and place the activated device in the package before shipping. For customers wishing to utilize SenseAware without a longer-term contract, FedEx Custom Critical offers ShipmentWatch – a new monitoring solution offering the SenseAware service on an as-needed basis.
