HireAHelper Relocation Study Reveals That Most People Move for a Job

Survey Shows That More Than 35% of All Moves are Job-Related

OCEANSIDE, Calif.--()--HireAHelper, an online marketplace for do-it-yourself movers looking to hire well-qualified loading and unloading labor, today unveiled the results of an independent survey indicating that most people move because of a job. The survey of more than 586 do-it-yourself movers showed that 28.3% of them are moving to take advantage of a new job opportunity – and another 7.5% are moving because of a job transfer.

The job-related move was by far the most common reason for relocation – superseding divorce or separation (19.4%), retirement (6.4%), and graduation (2.2%).

“We’ve helped hundreds of thousands of movers over the years, and we see a lot of people moving to pursue a job – so I’m not surprised that it’s more than a third of the moves we conduct,” said Mike Glanz, Co-Founder and CEO of HireAHelper. “This is the first time we’ve brought in a third party to survey the entire spectrum of people we help move, so it’s interesting to see these types of numbers emerge.”

The online survey was conducted by Viewpoint America in October 2013 and the results were analyzed using a state-of-the-art statistical software system from IBM. The survey was intended to help examine the demographic composition of the HireAHelper customer base and to better understand people’s motives for moving.
