DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--They’re taking root now, and soon more than 5,000 trees that TXU Energy helped plant across Texas this year will start providing benefits that will last for decades.
Based on USDA Forest Service formulas, the trees planted this year will deliver $23.25 million in environmental benefits during a 40-year lifespan. That includes more than $286,000 a year in energy savings and more than $150,000 per year in storm-water benefits.
“These trees deliver incredible benefits, from cooling shade to pollution abatement and the prevention of soil erosion,” said Jon Bennett, director of community affairs for TXU Energy. “On top of all of that, the trees we plant increase the quality of life for everyone in Texas.”
Through its Committed to Community Growth program, TXU Energy works with the Texas Trees Foundation to provide and plant trees in public areas around the state, including neighborhood associations, schools, nonprofit organizations and municipalities. Together, TXU Energy and the foundation maintain TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm and Education Center, the country’s largest nonprofit urban tree farm.
Since 2002, TXU Energy has worked with the foundation to plant 191,000 trees.

Plans are underway for additional tree plantings in 2014 with spring and the end of the summer serving as primary planting times.
