LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Carney Shegerian of Shegerian & Associates, Inc., a Santa Monica-based litigation law firm specializing in employee rights, has helped his client Alfredo Jose Lopez III, former Director of Human Resources for the City of Lynwood, file a complaint against Lynwood and some of its key officials, including its Mayor.
The “whistleblower” complaint, filed earlier this month with Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that Lopez was fired in retaliation to his reporting the discrimination and harassment grievances of a coworker. Lopez also alleges that Mayor Sal Alatorre and other Lynwood city officials retaliated against him for complaining of illegal hiring practices taking place at the city. Further, Lopez alleges he himself was discriminated against and harassed while working at the city.
Lopez worked at the City of Lynwood since January of 2007 and served as Director of Human Resources. In his complaint, Lopez alleged that City Manager and fellow employee, Roger Haley, who is African American, complained to Lopez that Mayor Alatorre was harassing, bullying and racially discriminating against Haley. When Lopez filed Haley’s complaint and coordinated an investigation, he alleges the Mayor and Councilmembers retaliated against Lopez for his involvement. Lopez claims he was terminated just six days after he was interviewed by investigators regarding the Haley matter, even though he had been given a significant raise and told he was doing a superb job by his supervisors less than two months prior.
