NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ShopKeep POS, the leader in iPad point of sale to brick and mortar merchants nationwide, today announced same store sales for its merchants during May 2013 have increased by an average of 17.4% over May 2012.
According to an Intuit Small Business Index, small businesses nationwide on average saw a 0.6% drop in overall revenue during the same period.
“The statistics speak to a broader trend that early adopters of iPad POS systems are generally more successful in today’s marketplace,” said Jason Richelson, Founder and CEO of ShopKeep POS. “We’re also seeing that access to web-based business analytics is a real competitive advantage, with retailers using that to gain insight and make business decisions that are clearly paying off."
“For example,” continued Mr. Richelson, “our customers analyze sales data to identify their best selling products, and those that are just wasting counterspace. They also compare sales volume with employee scheduling to see if they are over or understaffing at certain times of the day,” he said.
Sweethaus Cupcakes and Candy in Charlottesville, Virginia, has seen a 416% increase in sales since May 2012. Husband and wife operators Billy and Tara Koenig have grown by exploiting and tracking opportunities to diversify.
“I started out selling cupcakes but now I have multiple streams to my business,” said Mrs. Koenig. “I do deliveries, I visit public events with my cupcake trailer, I do weddings and have started selling candy and novelties. The nice thing about ShopKeep is that I can split each of these areas up in my BackOffice and keep regular track on how each area is doing,” she said.
Mr. Richelson added that the marriage of cloud computing and mobile technology is changing the way small businesses operate.
“We’ve gone from a situation where people used to wait to review things like business performance at the end of the month or quarter, to one where you can view and react to sales trends live on your iPhone or iPad,” he said. “It’s a significant leap forward, and it’s no accident these retailers are doing so well.”
