SPARTANBURG, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Restoration, an Americana - rock band whose music and lyrics reveal culture-shaping social issues of the early twentieth century, will perform songs from their debut album “Constance” and their latest releases this Thursday, March 21, at 7:00 PM in Gibbs Auditorium on the campus of Spartanburg Methodist College. The event is free and open to the public.
Since its release in 2010, several South Carolina educators have embraced the album “Constance” as a contemporary teaching tool. The concept album and the group’s performances, have become a recurring part of the literature and history curriculum at Spartanburg Methodist College.
“I first heard of The Restoration while flipping through a music magazine. I thought the album, music and the group’s musicians sounded interesting,” explained Dr. Jonathan Sedberry, Ph.D., at Spartanburg Methodist College. “After seeing them perform, I was blown away and thought the study of the album and lyrics could help attract students to fiction and poetry and extend the purpose of our learning community at SMC.
“Constance” is a truly remarkable work of art and though not equal to the work of Whitman or Frost, it possesses the complexity and cultural force to be studied alongside such giants of American literature,” stated Sedberry.
Additionally, The Restoration will perform songs from their most recent album, “Honor the Father” and their upcoming new release, “A Voice Wild and Strange”.
Musically, The Restoration is a fresh, creative force in the evolution of traditional and regional music, providing a living, contemporary voice that embraces overlapping genre boundaries while remaining aware and respectful of music history. This will be their third performance at Spartanburg Methodist College.
Spartanburg Methodist College is South Carolina’s only private, residential college exclusively for freshmen and sophomore students and one of only four colleges in South Carolina affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
