National Memory Care Experts Plan to Build First Stand-Alone, Highly Specialized Memory Care Community in Edmond

EDMOND, Okla.--()--The LaSalle Group is announcing its plan to build a cutting-edge nearly 28,000 square foot, $8.8 million memory care community that will exclusively care for residents living with Alzheimer’s, dementia and memory impairment. Autumn Leaves of Edmond (1001 S. Bryant Ave. in Edmond) will use a family approach to provide a home-like environment with highly trained staff members who understand Alzheimer’s and dementia. The project is the result of a partnership with The LaSalle Group and Silverado Interests.

“We are excited about the chance to help families in Edmond who need expert memory care,” said Brenda Brantley, chief financial officer of The LaSalle Group. “Our goal is to give residents a place where they feel at home while providing the specialized services that meet their needs.”

The community itself will revolve around the needs of the residents. The design team will use the latest Alzheimer’s and dementia research when making decisions about every detail. From the color scheme and the type of furniture to the spacing of the lights and the layout of the community, everything is chosen with the residents in mind.

“There is a strong demand for our services, and we know we provide a place where families can bring their loved ones without having to worry about the level of care they are receiving,” said Jon Featherston, associate developer for The LaSalle Group. “Edmond has a small town feel with a wide range of conveniences and services which makes it ideal for an Autumn Leaves community.”

Autumn Leaves of Edmond will also have its own culinary director who will prepare fresh food from scratch. A team consisting of a nutritionist and dietician will collaborate to create healthy and tasty meals for the residents. In addition, the community will have aquariums in the dining rooms, which according to scientific research, will create a calming effect and increase appetites—priorities for families living with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Every employee will undergo rigorous training that focuses on Alzheimer’s and dementia to ensure the staff knows and understands the best ways to respond to the residents’ needs. The life enrichment manager will enhance the residents’ lives with programs that focus on the mind, body and spirit while providing a place that welcomes their loved ones.

“We will care for the whole person at Autumn Leaves of Edmond,” said Chad Anderson, president of Constant Care Family Management. “Our life enrichment manager will use touch, laughter, music and dance to engage the residents’ senses and personality. We want our residents to reach their full potential, and we are dedicated to helping them with all aspects of their lives to make that happen.”

Autumn Leaves of Edmond will also offer free programs to the public including seminars, support groups, memory testing, and free respite care for five hours on Wednesdays to give caregivers a break. Autumn Leaves of Edmond is expected to open the fourth quarter of 2013.
