PHOENIX--()--Arizona State Credit Union provided gifts for 100 children enrolled in the Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel Program as a way to give back to the local community during the holidays.

More than 85 associates participated in donating over $5,400 in toys and clothing. This allowed Phoenix-based children, from newborn to 12 years of age, to have gifts to open during the holidays when it may otherwise not be possible.

In addition to participating in the Christmas Angel Program, the credit union’s Payson branch collected supplies for the Payson Humane Society and the town’s emergency shelter. An overwhelming response from associates and members resulted in both charities receiving more than 300 items, which included clothes, toys, gift cards, food, beds, cleaning supplies and blankets.

“As a local financial cooperative, it is our responsibility to assist Arizonans in need not only during the holidays, but year-round,” said David E. Doss, President/CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. “I am humbled by the generosity of both our members and associates and am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the communities in which we serve.”

These donation drives follow a long list of credit union efforts to give back to the local community, including supporting state employees through partnerships with several prominent local organizations, hosting Shred-A-Thons to assist community members with protecting against identity theft by shredding and recycling their old documents, and annually awarding grants and scholarships to Arizona students and alumni to help ease the financial burden of higher education.
