Deerfield Management Announces Appointment of Jonathan S. Leff as Partner and Chairman of the Deerfield Institute

NEW YORK--()--Deerfield Management is pleased to announce that Jonathan S. Leff will be joining the firm as of January 1, 2013 as a Partner of Deerfield Management and Chairman of the Deerfield Institute. Jonathan joins Deerfield after spending more than 16 years with Warburg Pincus, where he was a Managing Director and led the firm’s investment effort in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

As part of the Deerfield investment team, Jonathan will participate in all aspects of the firm’s investment activities, with a particular focus on expanding and enhancing the firm’s ability to meet the financing needs of private healthcare companies. As Chairman of the Deerfield Institute, Jonathan will work with more than 20 professionals dedicated to analyzing data and developing reliable, unbiased knowledge about medical products and healthcare markets around the globe. In this capacity, he will seek to leverage the Institute’s unique information platform into the public policy arena, establishing the Institute as a provider of value-added insight and thought-leadership designed to inform public policy and advance innovation in healthcare.

Jonathan will continue to serve as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of the National Venture Capital Association (“NVCA”), as Chair of NVCA’s Medical Innovation and Competitiveness Coalition, and as a member of the Emerging Companies Section Board of the Biotechnology Industry Organization. He will also remain active with several not-for-profit organizations as a member of the Boards of Friends of Cancer Research, the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Foundation and the Board of Advisors of Columbia University Medical Center.

Prior to Warburg Pincus, Jonathan was a consultant at Oliver Wyman & Co. He received an A.B. in Government from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
