WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--()--Championship BMX athlete Chad Kagy and sponsor Texas Pete® Hot Sauce joined other BMX pros this weekend for “Bikes Over Baghdad,” a goodwill tour organized to cheer American soldiers deployed in southeast Asia.

Kagy joined other riders, including Brian Kachinsky, Mykel Larrin, Morgan Wade, Jeremiah Smith and Scott Powell, in the first stop of the eight-day tour. Thanks to sponsor Texas Pete® Hot Sauce, the troops also will experience a taste of home with a “soldier cookout” featuring plentiful supplies of Texas Pete®. Soldiers also will receive Texas Pete®-branded items like can cozies – and the gratitude of the company that also represents the best of America.

“We could not be more pleased to support an event like ‘Bikes over Baghdad,’ which is just a small way that we, as a proud American company, can give back to the men and women of the military who fight to keep us free,” said Glenn Garner, Director of Marketing for TW Garner Food Company, the makers of Texas Pete® Hot Sauce. “We are thrilled that Chad is involved in this event as well, and we at Texas Pete® and TW Garner applaud his competitive and philanthropic spirit.”

Kagy and the team next will take the tour to undisclosed locations in southeast Asia to thrill U.S. troops stationed there. Fans can follow the tour on ESPN.com’s blog, at http://espn.go.com/action/bmx/blog.

Kagy and Texas Pete started their partnership this summer, with Kagy endorsing the hot sauce throughout the world while he competes in BMX events. Kagy, one the world’s best BMX Vert and BMX Big Air competitors, has returned from a devastating crash in 2011 to return to competitive form in 2012. He won the Teva Winter Games; earned second- and fifth-place finishes at two events at Dew Tour Mega 2.0; took fourth and sixth place in the Big Air and Vert events (respectively) at the X-Games in Los Angeles; and earned a pair of bronze medals for the Mega 2.0 and Vert events at the Asian X Games.
