FLINT, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The sounds of the Bosch Big Band and one of the world’s most famous trombone players will perform jazz, swing and a lively musical repertoire at a free concert at Kettering University on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
The 8 p.m. concert is open to the public. It will be in the International Room of Kettering University’s Campus Center building, located on the corner of University and Chevrolet avenues in Flint.

The concert band’s repertoire comprises more than 150 songs with different styles, ranging from swing, blues, soul, funk, jazz rock and Latin for both music lovers and dancers. Band leader and trumpeter is Josef Herzog.
Featured soloist is Jiggs Whigham, who is considered the top trombone player in the world. Whigham is an internationally acclaimed trombonist, band leader and educator. The versatile performer has been a featured soloist and first trombonist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, directed by Ray McKinley. He’s also been a first and solo trombonist with Stan Kenton.
Concert goers are encouraged to dance during the two musical sets, one beginning at 8 p.m. and the other around 9 p.m. Kettering’s Dance Club will offer a free “Intro to Swing” dance lesson at 7:30 p.m. in the International Room, prior to the concert.
This musical presentation at Kettering University is one of four concerts the band will perform in Michigan and Ohio. The tour schedule includes:

- Kettering University, Flint, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 8 p.m.
- Ohio State University, Columbus, Thursday, Nov. 1, 8 p.m.
- Bosch facilities, Farmington Hills, Friday, Nov. 2, 3:30 p.m.
Bosch Marketplace, 2-6 p.m.
From 2-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, the Bosch Big Band members will offer a meet and greet and an opportunity to experience Bosch products at the Bosch Marketplace. The Bosch Marketplace will be set up outside the International Room on the fifth floor of the Campus Center. Visitors are welcome to meet the band and get more information on the Bosch Group, a leading global supplier of technology and services.
The Bosch Big Band
The Bosch Big Band was founded in September 2003 as a new orchestra within Robert Bosch GmbH Germany. All musicians are employees of BOSCH. The professional trumpet player and band leader Josef Herzog built up the band within the last nine years. Currently the band has 34 musicians, who enjoy and enthusiastically perform big band jazz during their leisure time. The Bosch Big Band song book contains arrangements from Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Benny Moten, Neal Hefti, Joe Zawinul, Sammy Nestico, Bill Holman and more. The Bosch Big Band has performed many concerts in recent years and had the opportunity to play with famous guest stars like Ack van Rooyen, Bill Ramsey, Silvia Droste and Jiggs Whigham.
