ReVision Optics Introduces Raindrop as Worldwide Brand for Its Inlay to Treat Presbyopia

Raindrop inlay to be featured in presentations at ESCRS 2012

LAKE FOREST, Calif.--()--ReVision Optics®, Inc. (RVO), a leader in implantable inlay technology to treat presbyopia, introduces the Raindrop™ Near Vision Inlay as the new worldwide brand for its proprietary, patented inlay. The Raindrop brand will replace Vue+® in the European Union, where the inlay has received CE Mark and is commercially available, and PresbyLens® in the United States, where it is currently being investigated in a Phase III clinical trial.

“We selected the Raindrop brand to capture our inlay’s unique properties and communicate its differentiating product features to ophthalmologists and patients considering surgical correction for presbyopia,” said John T. Kilcoyne, President and Chief Executive Officer of RVO. “Raindrop is a clear, ultra-thin, water-based circular inlay that is less than half the thickness of a human hair and is transparent. When placed upon the cornea, Raindrop looks just like a tiny water droplet – thus the name Raindrop. Additionally, the new brand will eliminate any confusion over multiple names for our product.

“We will be unveiling our Raindrop brand to the ophthalmic community at next week’s ESCRS 2012, the XXX Congress of the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, in Milan. Our Raindrop Near Vision Inlay will be featured in several presentations by industry thought leaders at this prestigious conference that attracts ophthalmologists from around the world to discuss the latest technology and clinical outcomes in our field.”

The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is designed to be a surgical option for near and intermediate vision enhancement. It is a 2 millimeter diameter inlay that is placed on the cornea of the patient’s non-dominant eye during a 10-minute procedure. The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay, microscopically changes the shape of the cornea’ surface to correct for presbyopia. It is composed of approximately 80% water and is bioengineered to facilitate the normal or physiologic transport of nutrients and fluids within the cornea.
