HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As emerging robotics company Quantum International Corp. (OTCBB: QUAN) continues to seek out promising innovations for commercialization, the company believes that new robots controlled using the Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad represent a major leap forward in improving the ways that children with autism learn and communicate.
Robotics company Interbots has teamed up with the Autism Center of Pittsburgh to create Popchilla, a plush, cuddly robot designed to help provide therapy for autistic kids. Because children with autism are sometimes more likely to communicate with a non-human entity, Popchilla can serve as a bridge between autistic kids and the outside world.
In the first phase of the therapy program, trained therapists use an iPad app to control Popchilla’s movements and interact with an autistic child. Eventually, the therapists will turn over the robot’s iPad controls to the child and encourage him or her to use Popchilla to identify and express emotions to others, potentially reducing behavioral frustrations.
