Harvard Business School to Host Renowned General Management Program and Program for Leadership Development

Unique and personalized programs will prepare individuals at all levels for increased corporate success

BOSTON--()--Harvard Business School (HBS) executive education will host two comprehensive leadership programs over the coming months: General Management Program: Creating Outstanding Business Leaders and Program for Leadership Development: Accelerating the Careers of High-Potential Leaders. Composed of on- and off- campus modules, each distinct offering delivers a unique learning environment and insights into effective global strategies that senior executives need to position their companies for long-term success.

“HBS comprehensive leadership offerings are an opportunity for executives at all levels – from senior executives to managers – to deliver high corporate performance and position their organizations for success,” said David B. Yoffie, Max and Doris Starr Professor of International Business Administration and Senior Associate Dean and Chair of Executive Education. “By coming together as peers to strengthen leadership styles and strategies, participants find HBS comprehensive leadership programs transformative experiences that help them and their companies succeed.”

General Management Program (GMP) will take place over the course of two distinct sessions held from July–November 2012 and January–May 2013. GMP participants will return to their organization with the analytical skills needed to identify, frame and solve complex business problems; the confidence to make important business decisions in an uncertain and rapidly changing environment; and, the leadership skills to drive fundamental change in their organization and industry. In each session, participants will attend five modules – two on-campus and three off-campus – over four months to strengthen leadership capabilities and prepare their company for long-term success. GMP is designed for executives with recently acquired or expanded general management responsibilities and possessing 15 to 20 years of work experience.

“Rooted in a five-phase learning cycle, dynamic peer-to-peer interaction and a rich, case-based curriculum, GMP is a unique experience,” said Rajiv Lal, Stanley Roth, Sr. Professor of Retailing and Faculty Chair of GMP. “Participants leave better equipped to think, act and succeed in general management roles and ready to tackle individual and company challenges for long-term success.”

Program for Leadership Development (PLD) will run in two sessions held from July 2012–January 2013 and December 2012–June 2013. In each six month session, PLD’s two on-campus and two off-campus modules are tailored to participants’ unique leadership styles and challenges. One-on-one coaching, living groups, personal strategy projects, practical application, and a faculty composed of full-time HBS professors are hallmarks of this intensive program. PLD is designed for managers or functional specialists with approximately 10 to 15 years of experience who have been identified by their organization as an outstanding prospect for senior management. Participants live in eight-person living groups that ensure exposure to a mix of industry viewpoints and experience, and helps them better understand decision making processes of themselves and other leaders.

“PLD provides our participants with a rich immersive learning experience where the art and science of general management are balanced with exposure to the latest insights on innovation, change, and leadership,” said Michael L. Tushman, Paul R. Lawrence MBA Class of 1942 Professor of Business Administration and Faculty Chair of PLD. “Participants leave PLD ready to take on new challenges personally and professionally, supported by finely-honed leadership and management skills, and, equally importantly, a global network of peer leaders. It truly is a transformational experience.”

As with all HBS Executive Education programs, GMP and PLD are taught by a core faculty of senior HBS professors using the HBS case method to guide participants through close-to-practice research and best practices. Together with a diverse set of peers, participants will enjoy an interactive experience that extends the learning process through personal and professional networks long after the conclusion of each program.
