SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alliance Health Networks, the leading social networking company serving consumers and the healthcare industry, today announced it has hired data analytics expert and former CTO of Evri, Deep Dhillon, as its new chief data scientist.
In this role, Dhillon will lead the company’s efforts in analyzing and integrating massive amounts of health research aggregated by Medify, a leading provider of data-driven treatment information that was recently acquired by Alliance Health. Dhillon will also be responsible for the application of deep data analytics across Alliance Health’s social networks to provide community members the most recent and comprehensive health data available.
“Deep has extensive expertise building smart search applications, which will prove extremely valuable as we continue to build the most powerful and searchable online health platform,” said Jay Bartot, senior vice president of technology at Alliance Health Networks. “The challenge with health data is that the subject matter is often very complex. The ability to analyze and present that data in a useful way is a key to success in the future of healthcare. Given Deep's background, he's the perfect person to lead the charge researching and building the next generation of data-driven interactive health applications and social networks.”
Alliance Health connects over 1.5 million registered members to each other and valuable condition-specific information through more than 50 social health networks, such as Diabetic Connect, Heart Connect, Sleep Connect and Arthritis Connect, among others. These online communities help consumers more actively manage their individual health conditions through access to personal connections, powerful tools and more complete health insights.
Dhillon has spent more than 15 years working in technology and analytics, and is a recognized expert in large scale distributed natural language processing. As a former CTO at Evri, Dhillon led the development efforts for a semantic content recommendation engine. In his role at Insightful Corporation (now Tibco) as the director of engineering, Dhillon led development efforts for InFact, a large-scale text analysis platform and search engine, and helped arrange the multi-million dollar sale of the technology. Prior to Insightful, Dhillon was a founder and chief scientist at music search and identification company Cantametrix, where he helped build the world's first large-scale, fully automated, digital signal processing based music identification and classification system, which is now used by Apple iTunes, Yahoo! Music Engine and others.
“Alliance Health has made tremendous strides in changing the way people manage their health, and I am thrilled to be joining the team,” said Dhillon. “Through its innovative platform and the recent acquisition of Medify, Alliance Health has amassed vast resources of health-related research and information. I look forward to working with the team to develop new technologies that will distill that information down to personalize it and make it accessible to patients and their families worldwide.”
Dhillon received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin.
