DVCon 2011 Announces Best Paper; Reports Significant Attendance Increase

UVM a technical highlight of conference

DVCon 2011

LOUISVILLE, Colo.--()--DVCon ended its 2011 run last week with another successful year. Numbers continued to rise over previous years in attendance, exhibitors and sponsorships. Overall attendance rose 13% to 718. Exhibits were sold out with 35 exhibitors, 14 of them for the first time.

The Award for Best Paper, as voted by conference attendees, went to Adam Erickson of Mentor Graphics for his paper, “Are Macros in OVM & UVM Evil? – A Cost-Benefit Analysis”.

UVM – the Universal Verification Methodology and the newest standard ratified by Accellera - continued to be a highlight throughout the conference, with the UVM workshop sponsored by Accellera at capacity. UVM was also featured in three technical sessions, the technical panel “UVM – Final Answer or Phone a Friend?”, and two of the five posters in the new Tuesday afternoon poster session.

“We are thrilled with the success of DVCon this year,” commented Karen Bartleson, DVCon General Chair. “The conference exceeded our expectations in many ways. Numbers were significantly up, and those that came to learn about UVM weren’t disappointed. The traditional networking that attendees look forward to year after year was evident in the crowded exhibit hall and hallways during the breaks. As always, the heart of DVCon is our technical program, and the Technical Program Committee again delivered a high-quality, valuable program.”

A record number of abstracts for technical papers were submitted, and to accommodate more of them than the program had room for, DVCon poster sessions were introduced to bring the audience even more information from the design and verification industry.

Other highlights of the week included the industry leaders panel, “Making Great Products Great” moderated by JL Gray. Panelists provided advice to engineers about how to be successful using examples from software, to microprocessors, to programmable logic, to the optics in the Hubble Space Telescope.

A special Birds of a Feather session on random test generation, cash prizes for two DVCon guests staying at the DoubleTree hotel, lunches provided by EDA vendors, a preview on the Conversation Central online radio show, and a sponsored networking event rounded out DVCon 2011. Attendees are asked to provide feedback on how to make DVCon 2112 even better.
