Building Transparency Announces Latest Round of Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) Integrations

Nonprofit Continues to Gain Traction & Introduce New Industry Partnerships to Make Embodied Carbon Impact Reporting More Efficient

SEATTLE--()--Building Transparency, a nonprofit organization that provides open-access data and tools to foster a better building future, is proud to announce its latest round of integrations for its cornerstone tool, the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3). The tool now integrates with Bentley, cove.tool, Procore, and Revit, signifying broad action in the movement to decarbonize buildings around the globe through embodied carbon reductions.

These integrations represent an important milestone for the nonprofit’s efforts as they provide access to real-time carbon emissions data within ongoing workflows for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. This makes it easier for users of these tools to understand, measure and reduce embodied carbon emissions and make progress toward sustainability goals. In addition, these integrations also help further drive awareness of embodied carbon and the need to set carbon reduction targets if we are to fight global warming.

“Leaders in the building and construction sector, as well as global companies, are prioritizing low-carbon procurement as they set time-bound goals for reducing their carbon footprint. The availability and ease of use of our tools are more important than ever as more individuals look to understand and measure their embodied carbon footprint,” explained Stacy Smedley, Executive Director of Building Transparency. “Integrating with leading technology providers in the AEC sector helps us to make it easier and more efficient to measure embodied carbon emissions and identify opportunities for reductions via green procurement. We expect continued growth of EC3 via these integrations and wider-scale prioritization of building-related emissions from the private and public sectors.”

EC3 + Bentley
The nonprofit is partnering with Bentley Systems to integrate EC3 into iTwin Platform, its infrastructure digital twin platform. The integration enables carbon assessment in infrastructure digital twin solutions, all powered by EC3.

EC3 + cove.tool
Via integration with EC3, cove.tool users can populate the carbon emission value of their building products to calculate the embodied carbon impact of their projects. Known as the Embodied Carbon Feature, this integration enables teams to simulate the impact of real-life products virtually for optimizing building design and empowering data-driven decision-making.

EC3 + Procore
In 2022, Procore and Building Transparency announced a new integration allowing users to leverage the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) through the Procore platform. EC3 allows construction professionals the tools to benchmark and assess their carbon footprint. Additionally, the partnership helps users reduce construction waste and rework, driving sustainability across the global construction industry.

EC3 + Revit
tallyCAT is a free and open-access plug-in for Autodesk Revit® that supports the export of material quantities from Revit to EC3 and allows synchronization between them. Powered by the EC3 database, it enables users to select materials based on project needs, assess embodied carbon reduction opportunities, and produce charts and reports from within Revit.

The nonprofit is experiencing exponential growth of its EC3 tool and regularly introduces new and expands upon current programs to drive awareness and enable climate action. Through integrations, Building Transparency allows the AEC industry to invest in carbon transparency and set reduction targets to begin to address its collective impact on embodied carbon reduction.
