JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--()--Winn-Dixie is proud to announce the donation of $366,000 to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and their movement to raise lifesaving funds that support breast cancer patients, survivors, thrivers and caregivers through every step of the journey.

This donation was possible through generous contributions from Winn-Dixie customers and associates during the grocer’s community donation program held in stores throughout Alabama, Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle, as well as special events hosted by store associates during the month of October. These vital funds will support the organization’s critical need for ongoing research, educational support and supplemental resources to help with early detection and risk reduction, ensuring every patient receives the best possible chance of fighting the deadly disease.

Lynn Rushing, Regional Vice President of Winn-Dixie, said, “Whether a family member, friend, colleague – or as a survivor themselves – we all know someone who has felt the effects of breast cancer. That’s why Winn-Dixie continues to stand with the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for more than a decade, and we are humbled to continue cultivating a future free from the threat of breast cancer. Our unwavering commitment is magnified by the Gulf Coast community’s rally behind this important cause to bring awareness to the widespread impact of breast cancer and to help our neighbors live longer, healthier lives.”

American Cancer Society research indicates breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in the U.S., just behind skin cancer. It accounts for about 30% of all female cancers diagnosed annually, with an estimated 290,560 new invasive breast cancer cases this year alone. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement assists breast cancer patients, survivors and caregivers by providing an essential network of support throughout the life-changing journey of diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

The generous donation builds on the established partnership between the grocer and the organization with a total contribution of more than $1.3 million over the lifetime of the collaboration. As a people-first company, Winn-Dixie is passionate about supporting causes that are priorities to its customers and associates. The grocer is deeply rooted in the communities it serves and remains steadfast in its commitment to enhance the quality of life of its neighbors. Winn-Dixie is honored to continue collaborating with the American Cancer Society and other organizations that share the same passion for serving local communities in times of need.
