Agape Youth and Family Center to Host “Be the One” Spring Benefit Event

Agape’s annual spring fundraiser will celebrate 25 years of empowerment and inspiration

ATLANTA--()--Agape Atlanta Youth and Family Center will host their annual spring benefit event, entitled “Be the One” on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 7 p.m at the Stave Room in the Sweetwater Design District . The Spring Benefit brings together a community of philanthropic leaders for an evening of entertainment and celebration to recognize 25 years of helping Atlanta students discover, embrace and achieve their full potential. The event will feature Brandon P. Fleming, nationally acclaimed Harvard educator and author of “MISEDUCATED: A Memoir”, as the keynote speaker and an exciting and interactive live auction supporting Agape’s academic programs for more than 200 students in the Atlanta Public School system. All proceeds from the event will support Agape’s operating costs that supports enhancement and expansion of ongoing programming in order to increase the number of children served in the community.

“Agape couldn’t be more excited about our annual Spring Benefit. This event is a time that we can gather together and highlight how we are making a lasting change in the lives of all of our students,” said Nell Benn, CEO of Agape. “We encourage the Atlanta community to join us at this year’s benefit to get a better idea of what we accomplish every day with these children and families, and see what 25 years of transformational change in our communities looks like.”

This year’s keynote speaker, Brandon P. Fleming, has been featured nationally on Good Morning America, Forbes, CNN and more. Fleming currently serves as an Assistant Debate Coach at Harvard University and Founder/CEO of the Harvard Diversity Project. “My passion for underserved youth runs deep, and I am looking forward to sharing my passion with Agape Atlanta at the Spring Benefit,” said Fleming. “At one point in my life, I was considered an at-risk youth and someone gave me a chance. Agape is providing these kids a strong foundation for life through their wrap-around programs and I am proud to support this effort.”

When Agape set down roots in 1997 in the Bolton Road community, it had just one goal in mind: to end the cycle of generational poverty. Agape believes it only take helping a single child to create a lasting impact on the economic course of future generations. By offering students comprehensive programming in academics, life skills, and emotional and mental wellbeing, Agape can significantly increase these children’s chances of academic success and improve the lives of the generations to come. Currently Agape offers 1,027 hours of programming to its students each year including in-school, after-school and summer camps with the average student participating for 11 years.

Agape’s Spring Benefit is led by chair Melissa Adams and the event steering committee.
