Shapermint Co-Founder and CMO Massimiliano Tirocchi Honored in 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30

Tirocchi Was Recognized in the Retail & Ecommerce Category for His Work Transforming the Traditional Shapewear Industry for the Digital Space

NEW YORK--()--Shapermint, the fast-growing DTC intimates marketplace and creator of brands Empetua and Truekind, today announced that CMO and Co-founder Massimiliano Tirocchi was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list for 2021, in the Retail & Ecommerce category. The 10th annual Forbes 30 Under 30 list recognizes accomplished, young entrepreneurs, entertainers, activists, and scientists, who are defying the odds by building thriving businesses despite the pandemic.

Since launching Shapermint in 2018, Tirocchi and his three co-founders have grown the company from 0 to 4.5 million customers, surpassed $250M in sales, and launched two in-house brands--Empetua (shapewear) and Truekind (bras)--all without external funding. The DTC marketplace carries 13 household name brands, including Maidenform, Hanes Hosiery and Champion.

Shapermint’s rapid growth is due in large part to its commitment to creating a movement that transcends commerce. Tirocchi’s marketing efforts have played a large part in changing public perception around shapewear and have allowed Shapermint to create a community of women who had never considered shapewear before encountering Shapermint. As a result, 48% of its customers are first-time shapewear buyers.

In March 2020, Tirocchi shifted Shapermint’s marketing focus to meet the moment and mindset of its customers. His Here For You quarantine series supported women left without jobs, while his Make The Call campaign encouraged Americans to not visit their moms on Mother’s Day due to COVID-19. Massi’s #WeAreInThisTogether initiative raised $100,000 for the American Nurses Foundation. And on Labor Day, Shapermint donated $50,000 in products to Bottomless Closet to help women tackle a new labor landscape.

“From the beginning, our mission has been to transform the traditional intimates market in the online space while tackling unrealistic beauty expectations, and our growth over the past two years is indicative that our message has resonated with women across the country,” said Tirocchi. “It’s an honor for our work to be recognized by Forbes, and to be included alongside other industry leaders who are making strides toward innovation in their fields.”

This month, Shapermint will release third-party growth data from market research firm The NPD Group revealing that the company accounted for nearly 20% of all U.S. shapewear sales, as of the 12 months ending August 2020.

This news follows Digital Commerce 360’s 2020 Top 1000 Report, which ranked Shapermint at number 3 of the Top 10 fastest-growing web-only retailers in the nation.
