NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y.--()--Northwell Health has launched a new company, Northwell Direct, to provide New York employers with a customizable suite of health and wellness services, including a range of COVID-related offerings.

The launch comes as employers throughout New York prepare to reopen based on the phased approach outlined by Governor Cuomo. Businesses are looking for a reliable way to keep their employees safe, yet lack the expertise that Northwell can bring to meet their needs as businesses restart and incorporate the ongoing monitoring and management necessary to operate in an environment where COVID-19 is still a threat.

Northwell Direct offers a range of services related to the new coronavirus, including diagnostic (molecular) testing, antibody (serology) testing and return-to-work assessments. In addition, the company offers numerous other services designed to improve the well-being of employees, increase workplace efficiency and control costs. These include vaccinations, biometric screenings (including cholesterol and blood sugar), health lectures and cooking demonstrations, as well as pre-employment screenings and consultations for OSHA compliance. Companies can also arrange for an on-site or near-site health center, staffed by Northwell providers, to deliver preventive care and treatment for minor injuries and illnesses.

“In this environment of threat and uncertainty, employers want to know that they’re doing everything possible to maintain a safe environment for their employees and clients alike,” said Michael Lovett, Northwell Direct’s chief operating officer. “Northwell Direct is a simple, cost-effective solution they can trust.”

Northwell Direct builds on the health system’s experience from nearly 30 years of providing community- and workplace-based health solutions, including health fairs, screenings, immunizations and wellness lectures. Since 2011, Northwell has provided on-site services for employees’ everyday health needs at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) in Cold Spring Harbor, NY, providing convenient care for the facility’s more than 1,000 employees, MDs, PhDs, fellows and graduate students, as well as their spouses and domestic partners. The SightMD Center for Health and Wellness at CSHL, staffed five days a week, provides confidential health counseling and wellness services, urgent care for those who have experienced minor illnesses or sustained minor injuries, as well as health screenings (for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, etc.), flu immunizations, smoking cessation, medical referrals, and other guidance on health and wellness issues. Northwell is currently responsible for managing the health of more than 500,000 individuals through its value-based contracts with its insurance payers, as well as its own employee health plan and other programs.

Northwell Direct works with employers throughout the health system’s service area encompassing Long Island, New York City and Westchester County. Services are flexible and can be quickly ramped up or down in response to a company’s needs. Injury and illness reports as well as other data analysis help employers better understand the needs of their workforce, assisting in future planning.

“Northwell has cared for more COVID-19 patients than any other health system in the country,” said Mr. Lovett. “Now, with Northwell Direct, we’re providing services that can help prevent new infections and keep employees healthy as New York reopens for business.”
