‘Drive and Honk’ Event at McKenzie Towne Care Centre - CUPE

CALGARY, Alberta--()--The union representing 150 employees of the COVID embattled McKenzie Towne Care Centre will join the families of residents tomorrow to honk car horns outside the facility.

The seniors’ care facility has seen 50 residents and 41 staff test positive for COVID. There have been 21 deaths to date.

The families of the residents have been organizing drive and honk events daily at 3pm. CUPE Alberta President Rory Gill says the union was invited by the families to participate.

“The event is to show love and appreciation for the residents and staff of the facility, who have been living a nightmare,” said Gill. “But it’s also to send a message to Premier Jason Kenney that the conditions at long term care sites like McKenzie have quickened the spread of COVID, and some things have to change.”
