Niagara Gives a Flush About Our Planet and Saves More than 850 Million Gallons of Water in 2019 in recognition of #WorldToiletDay

Niagara’s Nano® is Industry Leader in Saving Water

FLOWER MOUND, Texas--()--In honor of #WorldToiletDay today, Niagara™, creators of toilets that save the world’s water through everyday ingenuity, is flushing with pride to share that in 2019 its water-saving toilets have saved consumers and the planet more than 850 million total gallons of water.

Recognized by the EPA with a 2019 WaterSense Excellence Award for its excellence in reducing water waste, the Nano, Niagara’s newest toilet, is one of the most water efficient toilets available, using 77 percent less water than most other toilets on the market. The Nano offers users the option of a .5 or .8 GPF with the same power as the industry standard 1.6 GPF, a significant improvement over older toilets, which can use up to six gallons per flush. Niagara will also give away one Nano toilet today to consumers via its Facebook page.

“Niagara was founded more than 40 years ago with a mission to save the world’s water one flush at a time,” said Carl Wehmeyer, Executive Vice President at Niagara. “We continue to create innovative products that are powerful and use less water and pledge to work toward a future that saves our precious resources.”

World Toilet Day, celebrated on November 19th every year, was established by the World Toilet Organization to tackle the global sanitation crisis. In August, the World Resources Institute reported that a quarter of humanity in 17 countries are facing an increased risk of running out of water. Ensuring that everyone has access to sustainable water and sanitation services is a critical climate change mitigation strategy of World Toilet Day for the years ahead. Niagara encourages this important initiative while working to save the world’s water.

According to the EPA, toilets account for 30 percent of the total water usage in an average home. Water conserving toilets not only help the environment, but they can help save money on water bills as well. The EPA estimates that water conserving toilets, such as the Nano Dual Flush toilet from Niagara, can reduce water usage up to 60 percent every year, lowering monthly water costs significantly and saving more than 13,000 gallons of water annually.

Niagara calculated its water savings based on the toilets it sold this year and the number of gallons of water that its .8 GPF toilets will use in the span of a year based on an average of five flushes a day for a three-person household versus the industry standard 1.6 GPF toilet.
