ST JOHN’S, Antigua--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September is all about movie buffs and check-raise bluffs at Intertops Poker (poker.intertops.eu) and Juicy Stakes Poker (juicystakes.eu). From September 15 through 23, the two sites will be running a series of $8+$0.80 buy-in, $600 guaranteed tournaments that promises to be a blockbuster.
Each tournament will be dedicated to a classic movie or TV show, with the date of each tournament corresponding to the historical release date of the movie or show that will share its name.
The cinephiles at Intertops are calling this celluloid celebration the “Silver Screen September Special,” while for the filmaholics at Juicy Stakes it’s the “Tinseltown Special.”
But the good news for value-hungry poker fans is there’s no need to choose allegiances. Both sites will be pooling their liquidity to bring you the same schedule of juice-laden daily tournaments.
Customers can simply register in the tournament lobby to play. Or, you can play a series of “Box Office Bonanza” freerolls to win a daily seat. These are password protected, but you can contact customer support to get your passcode. Otherwise, there are a series of feeder satellites running daily for just $1.10.
Both sites kick off the series on September 15 with the American Beauty tournament. Sam Mendes’ witty take on middle-class American mores, rapture, voyeurism and midlife crisis was released on September 15, 1999, which means it’s almost as old as Intertops, which launched the first ever online sportsbook in 1996.
“The realisation that American Beauty was released 20 years ago is enough to give anyone in their forties a midlife crisis, but the festival also offers a wave of gentle 1990s and 2000s cinematic nostalgia, with Timecop, The Shawshank Redemption and The Informant! also making the list,” said Intertops Pokermanager. “We want to celebrate these landmarks in film history, while giving our players some really good value tournaments at the same time.”
The tournament director at Juicy Stakes admitted that while some of the movies and TV series are truly worthy of celebration for their artistic merit, others weren’t so good but were included anyway because “we all enjoyed them when we were kids.”
Hence, the Baywatch tournament kicks off on Sunday, September 22, 30 years after the series debuted.
Now that really makes us feel old.
