Fifth Annual Bolton Foundation ‘Throw Down’ cornhole tournament raises over $180,000 for California nonprofits at Rose Bowl Stadium

PASADENA, Calif.--()--Over 160 teams competed in the fifth annual Bolton Foundation “Throw Down,” a fundraising cornhole tournament at Rose Bowl Stadium that raised over $180,000 for California nonprofits.

The event, created by the philanthropic arm of insurance broker Bolton & Company, invites business partners, colleagues and employees to participate in the organization’s largest annual fundraising effort.

“This is our chance to give back to those who have given so much to the communities where we work, live and grow,” said Mike Morey, Bolton Chief Operating Officer and Foundation Chairman. “It’s a lot of fun for an amazing cause, and everyone who takes part can leave knowing that they have helped empower some incredible organizations.”

Money raised during the event through participation fees and sponsorship opportunities is used to provide grants to select nonprofits each year.

Grant recipients are selected by the Bolton Foundation Committee based on their alignment with the Foundation’s grant funding priority areas of community development, education, youth services and multiculturalism.

This includes the Bolton Foundation Beacons, four annually selected nonprofit organizations that each receive a $10,000 grant in recognition and support of the outstanding philanthropic work they do within their community.

This year, A Window Between Worlds, Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, Get Lit – Words Ignite, and Operation Healing Forces were recognized as the 2019 Bolton Foundation Beacons.

In addition, the Bolton Foundation recognized the following nonprofit grant recipients during the event:

  • Culinary Arts Kids Eat
  • Echoes of Hope
  • Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley
  • Human IT
  • Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center
  • Maryvale
  • Operation Save the Streets
  • Reading Partners
  • The Prentice School
  • Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind

“The nonprofits recognized during the ‘Throw Down’ are local heroes,” said Bolton President and CEO Steve Brockmeyer. “They do incredible work throughout the year and help change lives every day. This is our way of celebrating their success and investing in their efforts so that they can continue to thrive.”

To date, The Bolton Foundation “Throw Down” has raised over $700,000 for nonprofits. Bolton closes its offices the day of the event, which is entirely employee-volunteer driven.
