CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ (PTCE), a leader in continuing education for retail, health system, managed care and specialty pharmacists, announced The Council for Medication Safety: Mitigating Contamination and Improving the Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the 36th Annual Chemotherapy Foundation Symposium Innovative Cancer Therapy for Tomorrow® meeting. The steering committee was charged with reviewing and discussing methods and strategies to improve the handling of hazardous drugs and will be publishing a special print and digital continuing education (CE) article that will be distributed in February 2019.

The Council for Medication Safety: Mitigating Contamination and Improving the Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs brought together a multidisciplinary group of experts to debate, collaborate and share best practices in safe drug administration, safe handling and technological advances that can improve patient care and health care provider safety.
Faculty presenters for The Council for Medication Safety included:
- Thomas H. Connor, Ph.D., retired research biologist, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
- Christine Roussel, Pharm.D., BCOP, director of pharmacy, Doylestown Hospital.
- Debashis Sahoo, Ph.D., president, MedInstill Development LLC.
The council was also led by chair Jeffrey Lombardo, Pharm.D., BCOP, associate director, Empire State Patient Safety Assurance Network, research assistant professor, department of pharmacy practice, University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy, global program director, cannabinoid drug development program, University at Buffalo Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences, along with a faculty board consisting of five distinguished experts. Editorial support for the project was provided by Jill E. Allen, Pharm.D., BCPS, drug information consultant and medical writer, Pin Oaks Associates.
The print and digital CE article will be written by Lombardo as well as Connor and Roussel and will be distributed with the Specialty Pharmacy Times® and Pharmacy Times® Health-System Edition February 2019 issues.
