Code Nation Appoints Non-Profit Leader Richard Rivera as New York Executive Director

Rivera will oversee and grow Code Nation’s footprint in NYC’s five boroughs

NEW YORK--()--Code Nation, the non-profit that equips students in under-resourced high schools with the skills, experiences, and connections that together create access to careers in technology, today announced that it has appointed Richard Rivera as its New York Executive Director. In this role, Richard will be responsible for program development, fundraising and expanding the Code Nation program within public schools in New York City.

Rivera, who most recently served as the VP of Strategic Partnerships for Summer Programs and Internships at the Bronx non-profit HERE to HERE, has deep roots in the NYC non-profit and education communities and brings more than 20 years of experience to Code Nation. Additionally, Rivera’s extensive knowledge of the NYC corporate giving landscape as well as established connections to the education community will enable Code Nation to simultaneously expand its supporter base, and offer greater tech career pathways for students.

“As we continue to grow our program nationally, we are tapping into talented people who can support our expansion efforts from coast to coast,” said Maurya Couvares, Co-Founder and CEO of Code Nation. “Richard will bring his vast experience to our program and will be key in anchoring the oldest and largest region that Code Nation currently serves. We’re thrilled to have him on board and are confident he’ll be successful in expanding our footprint to more under-served communities across New York City.”

Code Nation helps bridge the gaps between what schools teach and what the technology workforce demands through coding programs at public schools and professional mentors in tech fields. Partnering with schools where 75% or more of the student population qualifies for free or reduced price lunch, Code Nation currently serves 1,500 students in 46 schools in New York City and the Bay Area.
