Just in Time for #GivingTuesday: Mi People, a New, Global-Philanthropy Based Social Media Network for Forward-Minded People

CINCINNATI--()--Entrepreneur and philanthropist Natalia Cristo has found a way to give meaning to social media “likes” in support of #GivingTuesday.

After attending the Philanthropy Innovation Summit at Stanford University and conducting substantial research in Global Philanthropy, the Mi People CEO realized the need for an easy-to-use mobile application that could be fun and rewarding, while making a positive impact on our planet.

Mi People is a social network that allows users to experience unsolicited interactions amongst like-minded people with a gratifying reward of a "like" in the form of $1. It is also an easy way for users to make tax-deductible contributions to their favorite charities globally with the simple click of a fingertip by posting photos and videos while using the app.

"Let’s face it, social media is not going away, and with all the good that it does by connecting people around the world, it also got saturated with over-posting, extensive marketing and usage of private user information for the benefit of corporations. And although social media ‘likes’ make us feel good, the gratification is only short term, and there is absolutely no other benefit than that. With Mi People, every ‘like’ and every 'post' provides financial support to various charities worldwide. After a soft local launch, we are introducing the app nationally in celebration of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration," says Natalia.

The Mi People technology is a philanthropy-based social network that also can be used by nonprofit organizations themselves during events that require voting or live donations, as well as for creating challenges and competitions, providing both instant funding and awareness. This platform helps eliminate the problems plaguing social media today since it's free of marketing and data harvesting. It also prompts users to self-regulate on the amount that they post, inspiring them to create better quality content. But the core idea is to start SHARING the old-fashioned way, just as we are used to doing. "If you share a photo of a $4 coffee on Instagram, it is not truly sharing," says Natalia Cristo. "But on Mi people you can dedicate that post to World Food Program and then truly share with meaning, and when $1 'likes' do come in, the gratification is much more rewarding and lasting. All of a sudden we are not the only ones who feel good from receiving 'likes,'" concludes the Mi People CEO.

The Mi People app can be downloaded for free at the Apple App Store or on Google Play, or at www.mipeople.org. Upon downloading the app, users set up their profile, fund their virtual wallet with a minimum of $10 and create a post along with choosing a charity and a donation amount (as little as $1). Other users can then like that photo by clicking the "I’m With You" button and making a donation as well. As a result of “likes,” the amount of the user's initial post will multiply exponentially, bringing more meaning to everyday social media interactions. Posts may be instantaneously shared on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and users may invite their friends from other social media platforms to join them on Mi People.

All Mi People donations are 100% tax deductible and contributors are instantaneously emailed a receipt upon placing the money into their virtual wallet. 90% of every dollar raised goes directly to their supported charities, who receive the donations on a quarterly basis.

For a complete list of participating charities, download the Mi People app and start posting with a purpose!
