Sallie Mae to Commemorate Veterans Day with $50,000 Grant to Folds of Honor

Grant from The Sallie Mae Fund Supports Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Military Servicemembers

Employees to Celebrate Veterans at Company Headquarters on Nov. 12 - Special Performance by Delaware Military Academy Student

NEWARK, Del.--()--Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, will commemorate Veterans Day with a tribute to military servicemembers and a $50,000 contribution to Folds of Honor from The Sallie Mae Fund, the company’s charitable foundation. Since 2014, the company has provided more than $250,000 to Folds of Honor in order to provide scholarships for children and spouses of disabled and fallen military servicemembers.

The $50,000 grant from The Sallie Mae Fund will be presented during a ceremony at Sallie Mae’s headquarters in Newark, Delaware, on Nov. 12, where employees will gather to express their gratitude to veterans and current servicemembers. Delaware Military Academy senior MacKenzie Warrick will perform the National Anthem at the event. Allen Wronowski, Director, Folds of Honor, will also be present for the celebration.

“We’re committed to providing the families of servicemembers, who have made supreme sacrifices, a means to higher education in hopes that we can help them build the kind of future their loved ones worked so hard to protect,” said Wronowski. “Without the support from organizations like Sallie Mae, we would not be able to honor the legacy of our nation’s heroes.”

“Veterans Day provides a meaningful opportunity to showcase our appreciation to the men and women who have so bravely served our country, including many of our own employees and customers,” said Tim Hanrahan, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “Our support of Folds of Honor and their efforts to provide scholarships to the families of servicemembers is a natural extension of our company’s mission to help make the dream of higher education a reality.”

In addition to contributions to organizations like Folds of Honor, Sallie Mae demonstrates its commitment to veterans and servicemembers year-round with resources and benefits for customers and employees in the military. Sallie Mae offers customers a number of resources to help military families manage student loans before, during, and after deployment, with a team of specially trained customer service representatives who work exclusively with military families.

For employees on active military duty and their families, Sallie Mae serves as a resource and provides assistance during the transition to and from their service. The company offers flexible scheduling and time off for training and deployment and provides military caregiver leave for employees with family members. These efforts have been recognized by the Delaware Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, which presented the Pro Patria Award, its highest honor, to Sallie Mae earlier this year.

“I believe we have a responsibility to honor veterans today, and every day, and I am proud to be part of an organization with a strong commitment to servicemember employees,” said Dan Kennedy, a former Army officer and senior vice president, chief information officer, Sallie Mae. “It’s a privilege to work alongside fellow veterans at Sallie Mae, and our culture and community will continue to benefit from their efforts and leadership.”
