Biological Dynamics Appoints Irwin M. Jacobs as Chairman of the Board

SAN DIEGO--()--Biological Dynamics, a company committed to improving global health outcomes by empowering global communities with accessible cancer diagnostics, today announced the appointment of Dr. Irwin M. Jacobs as Chairman of the Board. Dr. Jacobs is founding Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Qualcomm and Chairman Emeritus of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies.

Dr. Jacobs succeeds Dr. Paul R. Billings, who was recently appointed the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs for Natera, following more than two years as Biological Dynamics’ Chairman. Since joining the Board, Dr. Billings’ input has been instrumental in strengthening the company’s team, operations, and clinical strategy.

As co-founder of Qualcomm, Dr. Jacobs led the commercialization of CDMA, a technology that brought advanced voice and data wireless communications to billions of consumers worldwide. Dr. Jacobs’ achievements in communications began at MIT, where he received his Doctor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959, and, while a faculty member from 1959-1966, coauthored the textbook Principles of Communication Engineering. He went on to serve as professor of Computer Science and Engineering at UCSD from 1966-1972 and cofounded and served as Chairman and CEO of Linkabit. He has received numerous recognitions and awards, including the National Medal of Technology, the IEEE Medal of Honor, the Franklin Institute Bower Award in Business Leadership, the IMEC Lifetime of Innovation Award, and nine honorary doctorates.
