In this report, Technavio analysts highlight the increasing number of surgical procedures as a key factor contributing to the growth of the global patient temperature management systems market:

Increasing number of surgical procedures

There has been an increase in the number of chronic diseases due to a sedentary lifestyle, environmental pollution, stress, excessive consumption of alcohol and tobacco, and unhealthy diets. Some of the common chronic diseases across the world are hypertension, CVDs, cancer, and orthopedic deformities. In 2017, in countries such as the US, around 28.6 million people visited hospitals and ASCs, and 53% of all surgical procedures were performed in hospitals and 47% were performed in ASCs. The most common procedures include orthopedic surgeries such as fracture fixation, knee replacement surgeries, knee arthroscopy, ophthalmology surgeries, nervous system surgeries, and excisions or destructions of tumors.

According to a senior analyst at Technavio for orthopedics and medical devices, “Hyperthermia is used to treat cancer as it can make some cancer cells more sensitive to radiation and can destroy cancer cells that radiation therapy cannot. In these conditions, patient temperature management systems are used. For example, heated anticancer drugs are administered by fluid warming systems through the peritoneal cavity to treat cancers of the stomach, liver, and intestines. In case of metastatic cancer, whole body hyperthermia is provided using patient warming systems. Hence, the increasing prevalence of such diseases will drive the growth of the market.”
