UCSF to Implement New AI Decision Support System for Radiation Oncology from Siris Medical

Deal follows publication of a study in the Journal of Radiotherapy and Oncology about the role of historical clinical insights in patient-specific decision making

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Siris Medical, Inc., a company headquartered in Silicon Valley and Boston that offers the only Artificial Intelligence (AI) treatment decision-support system for use in radiation oncology, announced today that it has been awarded a contract with the University of California, San Francisco Department of Radiation Oncology. UCSF will implement Siris Medical’s QuickMatchTM software as a primary treatment decision support tool for the treatment of head, neck and lung cancer patients.

“This will help us leverage the wealth of our expertise and more efficiently choose the best treatment plan for each individual patient. I am thrilled to see the impact of this technology,” said Tim Solberg PhD, Vice Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at UCSF.

This announcement follows a recent publication, “Clinical decision support of radiotherapy treatment planning: A data-driven machine learning strategy for patient-specific dosimetric decision making,” in the Journal of Radiotherapy and Oncology in December 2017. This study demonstrates the unique ability of the platform to draw upon historical clinical insights for patient-specific decision making. QuickMatch software assists physicians, patients and payers alike to make better-informed decisions about treatment techniques, prescription and tradeoffs. The study was a collaborative effort between UCSF, University of Pennsylvania, University of Maryland, and Siris Medical.

Colin Carpenter PhD, President and CEO of Siris Medical adds: “We are excited to have the opportunity to support the expertise of the UCSF team. We are confident that QuickMatch will accelerate the treatment planning process and enable each patient to benefit from the best plan possible to treat their disease.”
