AltaPointe Aims to Improve Care Outcomes and Lower Costs with Interoperability Framework

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--()--Alabama-based behavioral health provider AltaPointe Health has adopted the Carequality framework to connect their Netsmart electronic health records (EHR) with other providers across AltaPointe’s multiple hospital systems. This link enables patient information to be seamlessly exchanged between both behavioral health and physical care providers within the network. Connecting and exchanging behavioral health patient data with other types of healthcare organizations aids providers in developing treatment plans from a whole-person approach, thereby leading to improved care and better outcomes for patients.

Carequality, a part of The Sequoia Project, is a partnership of EHR providers that delivers unified health data sharing capabilities for providers serving all healthcare communities. Netsmart is a founding member of Carequality and the only healthcare IT provider solely focused on behavioral health, post-acute and social services. AltaPointe, Alabama's most comprehensive and largest regional community behavioral health provider, is one of four Netsmart clients currently live with Carequality across provider network.

“AltaPointe has always been on the forefront with healthcare technology and integrating the Netsmart interoperability engine into their health system,” said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine. “We look forward to learning with them how to best leverage Carequality in the behavioral health space and exploring how other communities can benefit from real-time, coordinated patient information across all care settings.”

With access to the Carequality interoperability framework, AltaPointe will have actionable data and analytics to make better care decisions for patients at the lowest acuity setting possible and reduce hospitalizations while improving payment reimbursements.

“AltaPointe is evolving as a health system that will allow our healthcare partners to seamlessly collaborate with us,” said AltaPointe CIO Steve Dolan. “Over the past few years, we have expanded our reach to home care, psychiatric and post-acute care facilities. By adding the Carequality framework to our current EHR, AltaPointe providers will be able to query patient records from other community EHR systems, resulting in more efficient and coordinated care. In addition, those same healthcare partners will be able to query our EHR at the point of care, providing them with a more holistic view of the patient.”

AltaPointe has established itself as the state’s largest behavioral healthcare and psychiatric hospital system, and the second largest in the southeastern United States. Connecting its healthcare systems to others is vital in their quest to provide whole-person care for their communities.
