MIAMI--()--Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE:R), a leader in commercial fleet management, dedicated transportation, and supply chain solutions, is proud to announce that over 450 employees who work in the Company’s Commercial Rental, ChoiceLease, and SelectCare Maintenance business participated in the global day dedicated to giving back, #GivingTuesday. On Tuesday, November 28th, employees from over 50 Ryder locations across the United States and Canada participated by volunteering to support local charities of their choosing. This year, Ryder expanded its support for #GivingTuesday by encouraging the Company’s employees out of its ChoiceLease and SelectCare Maintenance operations to participate as Ryder commercial rental employees have led the efforts in prior years. Ryder employees contributed to the global day of giving by volunteering a combined total of more than 1,000 hours across the U.S. and Canada.

Activities included volunteering at local food banks, making bagged lunches, and conducting toy drives for local community centers. Ryder employees also volunteered at elderly centers and a variety of community outreach facilities in the U.S. and Canada with one common goal, to promote generosity and improve the communities where they work and live.

“For the past sixth years now, Ryder’s participation in Giving Tuesday is always driven by our tremendous employees and their desire to help the communities in which they work and live,” said Rich Mohr, Rental Vice President and Global Product Manager, Ryder. “This global day for giving back has become a tradition across Ryder as our rental locations look forward to giving back and making a meaningful difference in their communities. Each year, our participation has increased by 15 percent and the regions where our employees participate in Giving Tuesday have consistently expanded into new areas within the U.S. and Canada.”

#GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. In dozens of towns, cities, regions, and states, people embrace this day as an opportunity to raise money for local nonprofits, schools, and arts organizations; run food and clothing drives; teach children about philanthropy; encourage acts of kindness; collaborate with their neighbors; and celebrate generosity.

In 2016, millions of people in 98 countries came together to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $177 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.
