--(BUSINESS WIRE)--President Trump declared the opioid epidemic a national public health emergency, with more than 175 American lives lost daily to opioid overdose. Fewer than 3 percent of Americans living with opioid addiction receive medication assisted treatment (MAT), the most effective long-term recovery solution. With recent release of the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis’ final report, now is the time to lower the barriers to effective, lifesaving treatments.
This event will discuss the role of MAT in addressing the opioid crisis, the White House Opioid Commission’s related recommendations, and Congress’ role in making MAT the most common practice for opioid addiction treatment, particularly in Medicare and other government sponsored healthcare plans.
