Michelson Found Animals Honors Animal Welfare Leaders at 6th Annual Gala

U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer, California Assemblymember Matt Dababneh, Shelterluv and Animal Farm Foundation Among 2017 Honorees

LOS ANGELES--()--The Michelson Found Animals Foundation hosted its 6th annual Gala on October 14, where they honored an impressive lineup of leaders in the animal welfare community for their exceptional dedication and advocacy for animals:

  • United States Congressman Earl Blumenauer, a longtime advocate for the protection of wild and domestic animals.
  • California Assemblyman Matt Dababneh, who along with Assemblyman Patrick O’Donnell co-authored AB485, signed into law this month, making California the first state to promote shelter pet adoption by requiring retail pet shops to source their animals from shelters and rescues.
  • Jane Berkey, Founder of Animal Farm Foundation, whose mission is to work nationally to secure equal treatment and opportunity for "pit bull" dogs.
  • Greg Lucas, Founder of Shelterluv, an organization dedicated to delivering world-class software to animal shelters and rescues to help them work faster and more efficiently, in order to help more animals get adopted, thereby reducing euthanasia rates.

  • Dr. Neal Barnard, an associate professor of medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, author, clinical researcher, and founding president of the nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and founder of Barnard Medical Center, a nonprofit primary care medical center in Washington, D.C.
  • Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States
  • Francis Battista, Co-founder of Best Friends Animal Society
  • Judie Mancuso, President of Social Compassion in Legislation
  • Paul Koretz, Los Angeles City Councilmember
  • Los Angeles, Culver City and West Hollywood elected officials

Guests of the invitation-only event hosted by Dr. Michelson and Alya Michelson enjoyed cocktails and vegan hors d’oeuvres during a reception that featured adoptable animals available at Michelson Found Animals Adopt and Shop. During the dinner presentation, emceed by Aimee Gilbreath, Executive Director of Michelson Found Animals, leaders in animal welfare both spoke on the issues at hand and accepted awards for their efforts.
