Construction Begins on 24-Story Virage Bayshore Tower

Strong demand drives more than $75 million in sales before groundbreaking

TAMPA, Fla.--()--With brisk demand among buyers, construction teams officially broke ground today on the 24-story Virage luxury condominium tower on Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa.

The tower is setting sales records in the Tampa Bay region, and is one of the last unclaimed parcels on Bayshore zoned for a high rise.

“We are off to a remarkably fast start, especially as more people who live in single-family homes are now looking closely at the peace of mind and ease of luxury condominium living,” said Jay Tallman, Principal of Ascentia Development Group, which is building Virage in partnership with Batson-Cook Development Company, (BCDC). “We are thrilled to begin construction in earnest, and we are so thankful for the support we have had from this community.”

Construction kicked off with a groundbreaking event Thursday, attended by Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and many future residents, neighbors and partners.

“This project will truly bring a new level of luxury to Tampa, and we are proud of all our designers, partners and stakeholders that have worked so creatively to help bring this iconic tower to life,” said Litt Glover, President and Chief Executive Officer of BCDC.

One of the first steps in construction is to move the existing Virage Sales Gallery building across the street to 2905 W. Julia Street, where it will continue to welcome those interested in the project. Virage has just 71 residences, including 61 tower residences priced at $1 million to $2.5 million, and 10 estate and penthouse residences priced at $3 million to $5 million.

Smith & Associates Real Estate is the exclusive listing agent, with a team led by Dave Traynor, a specialist in luxury condominium sales. The sales team has signed more than $75 million worth of contracts for residences, and well more than half of the residences in the building are under contract. A wide selection of premium residences remains available, all with expansive bay and city views. With construction now underway, the team is planning for a potential opening in late 2019.

Virage has been designed by local architect Curts Gaines Hall Jones, a firm well known for its inspiring designs and extraordinary floorplans, all of which have been oriented to maximize views of downtown Tampa and Hillsborough Bay. Financing for the Virage tower is being provided by City National Bank of Florida.

Among the premiere features, the top two floors have a single penthouse residence each, with 6,700 square feet of space and 360-degree views of Hillsborough Bay, South Tampa and downtown.

The following four floors are devoted to Estate Residences with just two 4,400-square-foot residences per floor. The Tower Residences range in size from 2,400 square feet to 3,300 square feet. Every residence has a private elevator entrance, 10-foot ceilings, and access to resort-style amenities such as an infinity-edge pool overlooking Bayshore, state-of-the-art wellness center, pet grooming facilities, and 24-hour staffed reception.
