Camosun College Moves to Cloud with Ellucian Private Cloud Solution

Canadian college first to deploy Colleague by Ellucian via AWS Canadian Region

RESTON, Va.--()--Ellucian, a provider of software and services built to power higher education, announced today that Camosun College will deploy Colleague by Ellucian in the Cloud. Camosun College is the first Canadian institution to deploy this next generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution via the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Canadian Region.

Camosun College, located in Victoria, British Columbia serves approximately 19,000 students across two campuses––offering certificate, diploma, bachelor's degree and continuing education programs. For more than 45 years Camosun has built a strong reputation for its focus on its students, including Indigenous students from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit groups, and international students hailing from more than 80 countries.

“The decision to implement Colleague via Ellucian private cloud is directly in line with the first corner post of our strategic plan––fostering amazing student experiences,” said Camosun College President Sherri Bell. “With our new cloud-based Colleague solution we’ll have the technology we need to improve our interactions with students, including new features such as student planning and mobile technologies.”

Moving to Colleague in a private cloud allows Camosun College to easily access the most current application releases and offers greater flexibility and a modern user experience. The new solution will free up resources and create efficiencies, not just in IT, but in every department through an institution-wide effort to streamline and improve processes with the student experience in mind. Additionally, Camosun will gain disaster recovery capabilities through a highly reliable, redundant system that provides increased connectivity and reduced latency on a daily basis, and failover in the case of disaster.

“For more than two decades Camosun College has been a Colleague institution and we are thrilled to have them be our first institution in Canada to take advantage of the private cloud offering via AWS,” said Ellucian Senior Vice President Sales, North American Markets, Dan Maier. “In implementing its private cloud Colleague solution, Camosun will now be able to take advantage of new functionality that automates business processes and leads to better experiences, such as better tracking student data to allow for more effective engagement.”

“With Ellucian’s cloud solutions, colleges and universities like Camosun are now able to focus on delivering the best possible student and staff experience while securely maintaining control over applications and data,” said Amazon Web Services Inc. Global Director of Education, Worldwide Public Sector Andrew Ko. “We are proud that AWS enables Ellucian to deliver highly secure, scalable and redundant solutions.”
