Nebraska State Patrol Modernizes Concealed Handgun Permit with Online Services

LINCOLN, Neb.--()--As part of Nebraska’s initiative to make government more effective, efficient, and customer-focused, the State Patrol has partnered with Nebraska Interactive LLC to develop an online service for current concealed handgun permit holders.

This service allows for free replacements for a lost/stolen/damaged permit and free permit updates for name and address changes. It also allows current holders to renew their permit for the statutory fee, in addition to a small processing fee, from anywhere using the new online, mobile-responsive application.

Previously, renewing or replacing permits could be a time-intensive task which required permit holders to come into one of six Nebraska State Patrol branch offices to maintain their legal concealed handgun permit. This new online portal will be especially beneficial to the men and women in our armed forces who are deployed out of state or overseas, allowing them to maintain their permit while on active duty. No waiting in line and no appointments needed.

Since the deployment on September 12, there have been over 400 applications submitted online. In an effort to utilize technology and automation to serve the citizens of Nebraska, the State Patrol also collaborated with the Department of Motor Vehicles to provide verification of Nebraska Driver’s License address information to streamline the renewal process.

“Collaboration plain and simple. Our work with the State Patrol has been a productive one for years and we are thrilled to offer this level of convenience to the citizens in Nebraska,” said Brent Hoffman, GM of Nebraska Interactive.

“This new online process will help NSP to better serve Nebraskans,” said Jeff Avey, Acting Director, Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division. “Our partnership with Nebraska Interactive has been instrumental in creating the new online infrastructure that makes this option available for CHP holders in the state. This could not have been done without dedication, hard work, and collaboration.”
