Increasing focus on product launches by manufacturers

Many established vendors have increased their R&D activities on acaricides that are used in agriculture, animal husbandry, and household applications. Many countries ban certain acaricides due to their toxic content that causes harm to humans, non-target organisms, and the environment.

“The vendors emphasize the presence of organic ingredients in acaricides to reduce the toxic content and make them biodegradable. Such acaricides cause minimal harm to humans and are safe for non-target organisms. Many vendors have commercially launched products such as abamectin, fenazaquin, spiromesifen, fenpyroximate, and hexythiazox. New acaricides are required as these contain toxic materials,” says Mohd Shakeel Iqbal, a lead analyst at Technavio for research on specialty chemicals.

Rapid growth in the bioactive acaricides market

Acaricides are used in agriculture, animal husbandry, and household applications. They are banned because of their harmful effects on animals, humans, and the environment. Some plant oils act as pest repellents and affect the host which includes animal skin, plants, and others. Plant extracts are safer alternatives to prevent infestation. The use of organic products in acaricides will gain popularity as these are biodegradable and safe for the environment.

“Vendors offer several alternatives to control pests. A metabolite is popularly used against ticks and mites. Though organic ingredients are not yet commercialized for agriculture activities, animal husbandry, and domestic applications, these have immense potential for growth in the future,” adds Shakeel.

Use of acaricides for wildlife preservation

Ticks and mites adversely affect the wild animals. Many wildlife preservation bodies use acaricides in wildlife sanctuaries to protect wild animals from diseases caused by ticks and mites.

The key wildlife preservation authorities usually use biological methods to control ticks and mites. Wild animals, such as rhinos and warthogs, use mud wallows and rubbing posts to get rid of the ticks and mites. Ticks and mites feed on the skin and blood of the wild animals. It causes skin diseases such as demodectic mange and tularemia. Scabies primarily occurs in wild animals.
