PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading pet specialty retailer, PetSmart, today announced the introduction of PetSmart Pharmacy, a new online-only pharmacy that offers convenient ordering and autofill for hundreds of prescriptions, Over The Counter (OTC) medications and veterinary diet prescription pet food, combined with a home delivery service. PetSmart Pharmacy aims to provide easier, more affordable options for pet parents to care for their pet’s total health and wellness.
The growth of medication spending on pets combined with online shopping puts the PetSmart Pharmacy at the forefront of two important trends. In 2015, market research firm Packaged Facts projected the pet medication market would be a more than $10 billion industry by 2018, while its 2016 National Pet Owner survey found that 46 percent of pet owners buy pet products online, up from 41 percent in 2015.

During the online ordering process at PetSmart.com, pet parents simply enter information about their pet and veterinarian into the user-friendly PetSmart Pharmacy online form. From there, fully licensed and pharmacy-certified PetSmart pharmacists coordinate with the veterinarian. Once validated, prescriptions are filled and the products are shipped directly to the pet parents’ homes. An optional auto-ship feature enables automatic scheduled refills of medications or veterinary diet formula food.
The convenient PetSmart Pharmacy user experience makes it simple for pet parents to find exactly what they need, filtering their searches by pet type, product category, brand name, price, in-store or online availability, and a product rating system with one to five stars.
Popular medication brands
In collaboration with pet parents’ veterinarians, PetSmart Pharmacy gives pet parents a wide variety of options to treat common health challenges such as allergies, anxiety, arthritis, heartworm, seizure and diabetes, as well as rare ailments. Brand name and generic prescription and OTC medications include popular pet brands such as Bravecto, Trifexis, Carprofen, Sentinel and Vetmedin. PetSmart Pharmacy will not offer pet opiates as part of its product offering.

A full range of convenient, effective collars, as well as topical and oral treatments, are available to keep pets protected.
Top veterinary diet formulas
Science-based dry food, wet food and treats are available from top pet brands such as Hills, Royal Canin and ProPlan. Products can also be searched by health considerations (such as urinary, skin, digestive, weight issues, etc.), life stage, flavor, and grain-free or natural foods.
